4 Easy Ways to Make Mother Nature Your Bestie

[:en]Taurus season is here, and so is World Earth Day! Like new year’s resolutions, you don’t have make drastic changes that are too crazy to be kinder to the environment – we just need baby steps to start going green, and to make Mother Nature happy.

Be a flexitarian

Nope, we didn’t just invent a new word. It’s a real thing – promise! Flexitarians are semi-vegetarians who avoid meat whenever they can, eating more plant-based ingredients.

Other than it being good for your health, you get to reduce your carbon footprint, as the meat industry does consume a lot of water and produces way too much greenhouse gases. Even once a week is good enough for a start – make it Meatless Monday, or Tofu Tuesday, or Flexi Friday… you get the picture.

If you’re looking for some options to get you started, check out our vegetarian spots on the ENTERTAINER like Kuchabe, and score yourself a deal in the process.

Take up composting

Wait, what’s that? Simply put, it’s a natural way to turn your food and plant waste into fertiliser and soil improver; this reduces your waste output and carbon footprint in the world. At the end of it, you’ll end up with nutrient-rich soil for your next set of pretty plants.

It does take a little effort to set up but we’re pretty sure your garden is going to love the results. We’re huge fans of this ourselves. Watch this video to learn more about it

Turn off the lights

It doesn’t get easier than this. Keeping the lights on for no reason contributes to greenhouse gases and emissions, and nobody wants that. Turning off the light literally takes a second or less, so let’s be nice to Mother Nature and do our part, OK?

Plus, you get to save some monies on your electricity bill. Win-win!

Carry your own utensils

If you depend a lot on tapau-ing food, a tiny thing you can do is to bring your own set of cutleries that you can wash and reuse. That way, you don’t have to take single-use plastic cutleries that you have to throw away once you’re done eating. The next time you’re using your express offers at places like Salad Atelier or Chatime, try bringing your own fork and spoon set or metal straw.

These four steps are proof that you don’t have to be Captain Planet (oh dear, we hope we’re not showing our age here) to make a difference to the environment. It’s little steps like these that add up to make a wonderful difference – and just imagine if all your friends around you were doing it too. Mother Nature is going to be pretty excited.
